What are some tips for chatting in Furcadia?
Furcadia has established a culture of friendship and tolerance that has developed over more than a decade. Furcadians appreciate capitalization, punctuation and complete sentences over "net speak". They are a friendly bunch and many are eager to answer your questions and get to know you. If you are in a Roleplay area, try to stay In Character. Have fun, be yourself and you will get along fine with those around you. |
How do I talk? | |
Tap the Text Input Box to talk to those around you. This will open the keyboard. As other players chat while you type, you will see their text scrolling in the background. Any player that you can see on the Play Screen will be able to hear what you say. |
Can I add "smilies" to my text?
With the Keyboard open, tap the Smile+ Button next to the Text Input Box. Scroll down the menu to choose the emoticon you want and tap it to select. Then tap the + at the upper right corner of the menu to add the "smilie" to your text. |
How do I pose an action? | |
A pose (or "emote") is writing what you're doing, rather than what you're saying. To pose an action just start your text with a colon. For example, type ":waves!" and tap Send. If your name is Ryhn, this becomes "Ryhn waves!" on your screen. This is a helpful skill to master for Roleplaying and every-day conversation. |
Can I shout? | |
Shouting broadcasts what you say to everyone in the Dream that has their Shouts Channel turned on. You can turn on your Shouts by typing - and tapping send. You can send a Shout by preceding what you say with the - symbol. For Example: To call other people, you could type "-Come find me!" Some private dreams, however, do not allow shouting; if this is the case, you will see a display message telling you so. |
What's on the Furres Tab?
The second Tab at the bottom of your screen is the Furres Tab. From this Tab you can check your Current Whispers, see who's in the Dream you're in, and open your Friends List. |
What is a whisper? | |
A Whisper is a private communication within the game, similar to a text message or PM. Only you and the person you are talking to can see what you say. The box in the top right corner of the Furres Tab will open a new whisper. You can also begin Whispers from the "Who's Here" List and the "Friends" List. If you want to start a Whisper conversation from the Furcadia Tab, type "/furrename message" in the Text Input Box. Please note that if a player's name is more than one word, you will need to remove the spaces in his or her name when you send a whisper this way. (To whisper Joe Somebody, you'd type /joesomebody Hello!). |
Can I whisper someone not online?
Yes. If you send a Whisper while the furre is not on Furcadia, the game will store and deliver your message when they come online. |
Who is near me? | |
To find out who is in the Dream you're in, tap Who's Here? on the Furres Tab. Tapping any name takes you to their Furre Screen, and tapping the blue arrow by a name will start a whisper conversation. At the bottom of that list it will tell you how many people are in all of Furcadia at this time. |
How do I "look" at a furre?
If you want to know more about a furre you see on your screen, hold your finger on their avatar or name for a second. This opens the Furre Screen with their name, portrait and description. You can also "look" at them from the Who's Here List and the Friends List. |
How do I add to my friends list?
To add a friend just "look" at them and then tap the Friend Check Box. Just uncheck their name to remove them from your list. |
Why can't I see the portrait or description of some furres?
In order to see a furre's description and portrait, you need to be in the same Dream as them. You can also see their "desc" and "port" if they have whispered you, even if they are in another Dream. If you are in the same dream as a furre and still cannot see his or her description, you may have them under ignore. |
Help! Someone's bothering me!
If something a player says is bothering you, you can "look" at them and tap the Ignore Box and you won't hear them talking again. If you ever want to speak with them you can find a list of ignored furres on the Furre Tab to turn it off. If a furre repeatedly harasses you, you can contact the Guardians on the Live Help Screen. |
How do I tell if someone is real?
Most of the avatars moving around the game and talking represent real people on their computers, iPhones or iPads. There are several ways to tell if an avatar has a real person running it. If it has the word NPC over its head, it is not a real person. If you bump into them and they start their sentence with [*], then they are not a real person. If you can't tap their avatar to "look" at them, it is not a real person. |
Why are some furres faded in the game?
If a furre has been "AFK" for awhile, their avatar look faded or grayed-out. When they come back, their colors will be restored. |
What is a conversation starter?
In Lake Resort and Naia Green, some seating areas allow you to display a Conversation Starter over your furre's head. These floating words give other furres some clues about you and what you would enjoy talking about. Any furre with one of these over their head is indicating that they would like to chat. You can tap the Use or Get Buttons to scroll through the selection of words or just type the word from the list in your Text Input Box to jump right to it. |
