What is Furcadia meant to accomplish?

Furcadia was created with the lofty ambition of bringing people from all over the world together in a neutral environment to increase understanding and goodwill. With the use of Roleplay and social exploration, you can learn a lot about yourself and those around you. Many of our current players have said that they've learned social skills that help them in their daily lives. Many players, through using our creation tools and community programs have developed skills in art, programming, design, theatre arts, writing, typing, leadership, customer service, teamwork and social interaction that have helped them in college or with their careers. DEP is proud of these accomplishments and will continue to improve the world through Furcadia for years to come.

Who plays Furcadia?

Furcadians are people from all over the world, though the majority are in North America. Slightly more females play Furcadia than males. They tend to be creative people and accepting of different cultures, races and lifestyles. Furcadians are from all age groups and walks of life. The one thing that is true of most who play Furcadia though, is that they care about and enjoy animals. Often they have jobs or career goals in pet care, animal preservation and zoology fields or they just love their pets.

	How many people play Furcadia?
Furcadia has been growing for over a decade and is the longest continuously running Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMO).There are thousands of players online at any one time and several million have made Characters over the years.

How do I make friends?

Thousands of very wonderful friendships have developed through Furcadia, whether they remain net friends or develop into Real Life. There's even many who have formed relationships, gotten married and had children, who first met on Furcadia. You can make friends too just by being friendly with others and talking with them about your interests. You will be amazed at how fast the graphical chat environment brings people close together.

How do I find the artist community?

There is a huge artist community in Furcadia with ties to many other artist communities on the net. These creative people can be found all over Furcadia, drawing sketches, making portraits and patches, talking about music, dreamweaving and expressing themselves through their creations. The community forums are a good place to find artists or by "looking" at many players to see from their description what they like to do. Artists often make Scales in Furcadia by selling their art and some have even been contracted to create official game art.

	What about the 3rd party programmers?
The Furcadia Creators are very open to 3rd party add-ons for the game and offer support pages and a forum especially for this part of the community. These talented scriptors and programmers make enhanced tools, added features and web tie-ins. Furcadia for iPhone even started out as a 3rd party MAC client made by one of our players.

	Are there other writers around?
Writing is an integral part of Furcadia and good writing is a valued trait. Grammar and proper diction are seen as important. The Roleplay community often participates in group storytelling, typing whole paragraphs at a time to tell their part of the story. Many authors play Furcadia and there are special social groups that focus on writers.

Can I find fellow gamers?

Furcadia is often a "home base" for playing other games and RPGs on the net. You can find social groups to talk about or even go play your favorite games with. Paper and pencil games are also popular as the tools included in the free Windows version of Furcadia make gaming with your friends in Dreams a lot of fun. Using those same tools, you can even build your own RPGs and other games in your own Dream.

How do I find someone with my interests?

If you have a particular interest, chances are, somewhere in Furcadia there's a person or group that shares your interest. There's several tools to find them! Using the Conversation Starters in Lake Resort is a good place to start. The "Looking For" forum allows you to ask others if they share your interests. Groups & Guilds Day allows you to visit many groups and see if they share your interests. You can even form your own group about your interest and get others to join.

	What are Groups & Guilds?
There are countless groups that form in Furcadia, but Groups & Guilds usually refers to the organized Groups that have proven their dedication through webpages and Dreams. To find these Groups you can browse the Groups & Guilds forum and come to Groups & Guilds Day which is held about every other month.

What types of Groups are there?

It would be difficult to name all the types of groups in Furcadia. That said, you will find groups for socializing, Roleplaying, creating and helping others. There are social clubs for everything from anime to zoology and most things in between. Roleplay groups run the gamut of genres and play styles with everything from high fantasy to contemporary drama. There are creative groups about art, writing, music, poetry, patching, programming more. With the spirit of helping others that is prevalent in Furcadia, there are many groups where you can get help or join to offer your own assistance. Joining a group in Furcadia is a quick way to make friends and find your place here.

	How do I join Groups?
Talk to the leader of the group or read their webpage to find out how to join each group. They may have a questionnaire or character sheet to fill out or it might be as easy as just showing up in their Dream. Often groups request that you put a note about them in your description to show your support.

Can my friends and I form our own Group?

You sure can! You can keep it casual and give yourselves a name or you can become very organized with a webpage, Dream and structure. Either way can be a lot of fun! There's no set path or right way to create a group. We do advise you start with a group of friends and use their strengths to get organized. It also helps to have a set meeting spot, be it on a main map or in a Dream. Creating your own group can help you find more friends with similar interests.

	Can I find others who live near me?
While it is always a good idea to be careful who you give Real Life information to, it can be very rewarding to meet online friends IRL. The forums are a good place to advertise for others in your area to chat with or to meet up.

Can I meet someone to date here?

One in eight couple married in the US in 2008 met online! Even two of the owners of Furcadia met in the game and are together now. Very many furres have found meaningful relations through Furcadia, both ones that have moved into the Real Life realm and ones that have stayed as online relationships. It is important, however, that you are clear up front on if you are looking for Real Life relationship or a Roleplay relationship online. Let this magical online world bring you someone special.

	Are there forums to chat on?
The Furcadia Community Forums are a wonderful place to chat, get information, give suggestions, or even to RP. Be sure to read the rules before you post as these forums are carefully watched to keep the mood positive, helpful and a comfortable place for anyone to post. Be sure to check out the special iPhone forums and post on the New Furre forum to introduce yourself to the community.

	How do I log-in to the forums?
Follow a link from this FAQ to the forums, tap the log-in boxes, type in the name and password of one of your Characters and press "GO" on your keypad. If you want to change which Character you are posting as, just log out and log back in with the other name and the password for that Character.

	How long has Furcadia been around?
Furcadia opened its doors on December 16th, 1996. Even before that, Dragon's Eye Productions ran another online game called DragonSpires. The game was originally created by just two furres, Felorin and Talzhemir, who had worked in other game companies in the past. Since then Furcadia has grown greatly in players and content and more owners and staff have been brought in.

Who is Dragon's Eye Productions?

Dragon's Eye Productions, Inc. or DEP, is the small independent company that produces Furcadia. With a pawfull of staff and only the funding off Digo Market sales, this dedicated company strives to bring you the best online community on the net. With the help of volunteers and contractors, DEP releases several small and at least one large update a year. The owners, or as we call them Creators, of Furcadia are Felorin, Talzhemir, Emerald Flame and Fox.

	What is the meaning of life (in Furcadia)?
It isn't about the Digos, its about the friends. At the end of the day, we all have to log off. No one ever quits Furcadia, they just change alts. Dreams come and go, but the community is eternal.
