Where can I find free patches?
With over a decade of players creating them, there are quite a lot of wonderful Patches out there for you to download and use for free. Furcadia has an archive and there are several player run archives and many fan pages with free patches. Check the Patches forum to find links. |
How do I make a Dream? | |
Dreams are the maps that are created and uploaded to Furcadia. To make a Dream, use the free Dream Editor, available with Furcadia's PC or Mac download. You can also add your own art, music, sounds and/or scripting to make your Dream into an interactive game, home, business or world. The act of creating dreams is known in-game as "Dreamweaving." |
Can I make Dreams on the iPhone?
At this time you cannot Dreamweave on your iPhone, but we're hoping to release editors in the future! In the meantime you can build Dreams for free on your PC or Mac, upload them from home, and then hang out there with friends while you're out and about on your iPhone. |
What does Dreamweaving mean?
Dreamweaving is the act of creating or modifying a Dream. It's fun and easy to do! Dreamweaving is as simple as selecting an object and clicking to place it in your Dream. It's wise to start with a simple project, like recreating your real world home. Later you can make bigger Dreams as you learn all the tricks. A good weaver puts a lot of thought into the map design, and pays attention to the little details that make the Dream a fantastic place to visit! |
What is DragonSpeak? | |
DragonSpeak (DS) is the easy scripting language that Dr. Cat created to make your dreams come alive. With simple sentences, you manipulate cause and effect statements to "script" what you want the objects and furres in your dream to do. This can be as simple as making water splash when you step in it, or as involved as a roller coaster or arcade. Start with something easy and learn from there! If you aren't sure how to make something work, you can ask for help on our forums. Many of our players started computer industry careers by learning DragonSpeak first. |
What are patches? | |
In Furcadia, Patches generally refer to the player-made art that can be added to Dreams. Players can modify the items, floors, walls, portraits, avatars and even "skin" of their Dream. You can also patch sounds and music into Dreams-- almost every sound format is allowed. Patches are supported by a huge artistic community. Many of them make DragonScales and even real money selling patches they create for other players. |
How do I make patches? | |
Creating patches of your own is as easy as drawing a picture with Furcadia's free Fox Editor (on the PC or Mac) and adding it to your Dream. As you get more practice, you can learn more advanced techniques, like making color changing portraits, animating objects and skinning the PC interface. Even a new artist can create appealing patches for Furcadia, and improve their artistic skills while having some fun! |
Is there a way to animate patches?
KitterSpeak is the scripting method used to take the frames of an animated object and make them move. This is done locally on your computer to have fast and smooth animation. You access KitterSpeak from the Fox Patch Editor, rather than the DragonSpeak Editor. DragonSpeak can hook into KitterSpeak to have even more powerful control over the animations in your dream. You can make fishies swim, gears spin and butterflies flutter! |
What is PhoenixSpeak? | |
PhoenixSpeak is very closely related and intermixed with DS. Its main purpose is to let you store information so that your Dream can remember things permanently. For instance, you can keep track of high scores, the progression of quests, how many marbles your friends have lost, the layout of a chess game, and much more! |
Can I patch music in my Dream?
Yes! Furcadia comes with some music, but in your own Dream you can also add your favorite tune or melody! Midi is the most common format of music in Furcadian Dreams, because it's small and efficient. You can patch in richer sounding MP3 files (and other kinds), but they make your dream take longer to download. Either way, having a short theme song for your dream can really set the mood! |
Can I add my own sound effects?
Yes, you can! Adding sounds really sets the mood in your Dream for those who visit. Sound effects in Furcadia are stored in .wav format and then activated by DragonSpeak. Sound effects can add a crowded roar to a sports stadium, quiet birds to a wooded glen, or spooky overtones to a haunted mansion. Triggering sounds when a furre does something in your Dream provides feedback for games or quests, and adds to the fullness of your imaginary world. |
Can I add my own avatars to my Dream?
An avatar is the graphical representation of your furre as you walk around the game. There are many default avatars available, but patching a custom avatar into your Dream is an excellent way to make it stand out! You can patch in free avatars you find on the net, make your own, or even use Digo Market avatars. Avatars can be added to your dream either by replacing an existing avatar, or by designating it as a Local Species and transforming into it via DragonSpeak. |
Why can't I see skins or DS Buttons?
Skins (custom Interfaces) and DS Buttons (custom buttons that trigger DragonSpeak) are not fully supported on the iPhone due to the smaller screen size. You can see the text screen change color in patched Dreams to give the flavor of the skin. We hope to support DS buttons in a future update. |
Can I pay to get Dreams/Patches?
While you can create your own, or find generic Dreams, Patches, Portraits and avatars for free, many Furcadians offer high quality, custom art, Dreamweaving and DragonSpeak services in exchange for DragonScales. Check the Kasurian Trade Skills forum for talented Furcadians with free time to work on your project. |
Can I work with others on Dreams?
Silver Sponsors have a powerful tool available to them called Live-Edit. Live-Edit allows multiple furres around the world to Dreamweave together when using their PC or Mac. Quests can be customized on the fly, or new homes can be added as your Dream's population grows! |
What are Dream Packages?
Dream Packages give Dream Owners more powerful tools to work with, and allow them to make larger dreams as well. You can recognize a Dream Package dream by its distinctive red portal. Dream Packages can be purchased on Digo Market. |
What are bots and proxies?
Furcadia has a large Third-Party programming community. These Furcadians make add-on programs that run on your PC or Mac. A bot is a a computer program controlling a Furcadia character to make it do things automatically, without human involvement. A Proxy is a player-run program that adds game features to the Furcadia client. |
Can Furcadia analyze my real dreams?
Yes. When you took the third right after the fourth left while following the furre with no elbows, you really should have answered the kiwi's question. For it would have shown you the way to the foxen who represents your true love.
But the less said about the swimming pool full of cottage cheese, the better. |
